Vintage Fashion

Hello! I'm still partly on vacation and started missing my blog. But in the meanwhile I'd love you to check this post.
One of my personal favorite bloggers Ally from blog Shybiker helped me a ton with this guest post. Ally despite of having a very schedule shares fashion tips and ideas. I had tons of joy reading it. Thanks, dear! (it's so pity you didn't feature yourself in this post)

When we think about fashion, we tend to focus on what's trendy and new. We shun styles from only a few years back as old-fashioned. The history of clothing, however, is very long and if we look further back, we can find delightful treats.

There are many beautiful and interesting styles from earlier times. When our ancestors were young, they had different clothes to wear. There is nothing stopping us now from sampling those old styles.
When you search the Internet, you see dozens of talented young women enjoying vintage fashion. Some even dress in it full-time. An immersion that extreme might be intimidating to the rest of us, but it isn't necessary to go all the way to enjoy vintage fashion. We can add pieces of it to our modern wardrobe and, at the same time, learn more about vintage styles.

A good place to start in exploring vintage clothing is to visit blogs focusing on it. My favorite is Chronically Vintage whose blogger, Jessica, is deeply knowledgeable in this area. When you browse her posts, you not only see her own vintage choices but find valuable instruction on how to create your own vintage style. Among Jessica's tips are to pick a period that appeals to you (e.g., 1920's; 1950's; 1970's); to become familiar with the trends of that era (by reading old magazines, watching old movies, or searching the 'net); and to learn the characteristics of those clothes (e.g., their lines, materials and colors).
One misconception about wearing vintage styles is that one has to buy expensive old clothes. That's not true. There are many contemporary clothes which are (in Jessica's words) "vintage appropriate": i.e., they look old but are brand-new. The key is identifying the style you want, not the age of the garment. Some modern manufacturers make new clothes in vintage styles.
Sometimes, even if you aren't actively seeking vintage fashion, it comes to you. Peplum experienced a popular resurgence this year after being out of style for several decades. It was nice to see it back.

I don't just give advice, I take my own. Recently, I purchased seamed stockings. Seams! When stockings were first made, they had seams because manufacturing equipment needed to use them. A few decades later, improved machines no longer needed to use seams and they disappeared from view. Now if you wear stockings with seams, you're displaying a palpable retro-look. An attractive one, too, if you ask me.

My advice is play! Experiment. Explore. Browse vintage fashion blogs and stores. Select items that appeal to you. Incorporating older pieces into a modern wardrobe is a great way to add pizazz. You'll create your own individual style and not look like everyone else in pedestrian clothes from Forever 21 and Old Navy. It's fun to make an individual look and vintage clothing can play a valuable role in achieving that.

Have a nice day,
Ally and Lyosha

  7. I appreciate vintage clothing mostly because the fit is usually impeccable and there is no chance you will run into someone wearing the same garment.

  12. I love this post, as I'm a sucker for vintage :). I also like it when the items from the past decades come back, but I feel a lil bit annoyed to see really horible versions of something that used to be beautiful ;D (for example peplum, there are some nice pieces but also some *horrid* ones ;))

Explore Starcon

I'm going to brake up vacation post series to share the Starcon experience. A week ago I was sitting on the same spot and getting ready to go. We've been to lovely Saint  Petersburgh. We managed to have a charming walk in the  evening even right after the con. Starcon was all about sci-fi and we loved it so much. We even wore the Jedi costumes (wait for them in the end of post). Max, my lovely husband, sewed them for only 3 days (that's why the design is so simple). and I also got 2d place in Star Wars Miniatures board game tournament took place there. I'm so happy! As for outfit - I've chosen a super comfy outfit with a very cool pants! I bought them on ebay and they are more than 20 year old pants (I guess soon they could buy booze on their own but I doubt I need it). I love them for their shape - keeping me cool during hot and warm when needed. Oh, and can I also call it my pijama pants trend pants? or not? What I also wanted to mention you are my fab set jewel

Say 'yes' to a dress with Yesbabyonline

When you start on inspiration posts it hard to spot. At least for me. I feel like I am half awake in my bed, feeling super lazy and have to strict plans for the morning so I am hitting the 'snooze' button. I almost hear myself saying 'five more minutes' and I do mean five more minutes but I fail and hit 'show me more' button. Inspiration from online shops devour me. Yes it is budget friendly (you don't need to buy things even though you do want to) but it is not safe for your time. I can't really say I am against it, it is a good to relax and is also useful if you need to wait for your partner to finish some stuff to do. This evening it works especially well because I am waiting for my husband to finish the page. I am more or less limited by time so my online inspiration will be most pleasing. As always I wanted to set up a topic to make it even better. My topic for today is long formal dresses . Out of tons of online shop I picked the best for me toda

МКММ + Couture Fashion Show

So! I am so very excited! I have visited my first real actual fashion show ever since March and I couldn’t ever be happier. It’s just wow! This time I visited MKMM final shows merged with Couture Fashion Show later that night. I had a chance to see many wonderful shows by young and talented designers and enjoyed it a lot. Creativity everywhere. Something is purely catwalk (and I totally don’t mind it at all), something that is very easy to imagine rushing the streets, something very creative and futuristic and making a statement with so much in between. Overall in love. I don’t think I really can be picky because after all those digital shows real made a huge impression on me. It almost as if I am visiting my first ever fashion show but better because I know what to expect. I think you are not reading this and already scrolled past this point and enjoy the contestants. And don’t blame you at all.  RU: Прекрасные новости! Мой первый настоящий офлайн показ с марта месяца. И он оказася пр
