Emily Rose, the interview

Today I have something special made for you, an interview. Not long ago I went by a lovely newly launched online shop Emily Rose, became charmed by the styles and decided to tell you about in best possible way: making an interview.

1 how did Emily Rose start? Why did you decide to turn your art into fashion?

I have always been into art, drawing painting, sculpting, and photography. I just love creating! I studied art education at Long Island University in New Yorkto become an art teacher. My first year of teaching I was required to teach fashion, I had to teach myself and I found the art of fashion inspirational. My website originally started as my online art portfolio just to showcase my art. I created my website myself by watching lots of tutorials, I was not trained in web development. I always thought it would be cool to mass produce something since it makes it more affordable for other to make purchases than to buy my original pieces. I looked around the internet for print on demand shops and used a trial and error process to see which one was right for me. I landed on Printful (prinful.com) to help produce my products. I started with an etsy shop and it was great to begin with but it only lasted about a week until I decided to sell through my own website. I chose to do this because I had a lot more control over the features, set-up, and management, for example starting my affiliate program. I created everything myself, from the branding, logo, website, social media, marketing, and I am always learning and improving!
2 what was the first Emily Rose product?

This was the first Emily Rose product created. Originally I was asked to do this piece for a nonprofit exhibition. This was originally a 10 inch drawing of a frog using markers and pencils on a wood panel. The original piece sold and the money went toward the North Fork Environmental Council in Long Island.

3 where do you find inspiration for artwork? How do you decide it’s fit for the shop?

I find inspiration everywhere! I just keep creating and if I like the piece, I put it in my shop. I think I would describe my artwork as fun and surreal. I heard a great quote once “Don’t make art your life, live a great life and make art about it.” That is how I choose to live. I have great experiences, and what I create is subconsciously influenced by it. I love to travel and meet people. I have been to multiple countries in Europe, China, and Israel so far.
4 what is your favorite thing/object to work on illustrations for fashion items? I see a lot of animals

I love creating portraits. I create many portraits of people in black and white acrylic. I notice my Rapper Face Mask have been really popular. I also lately have been painting lots of rainbow animals. I enjoy making them because I think they are fun a unique. I think that my art is always changing and evolving. I think faces tell a story. Even in the animals I paint, I think each one has a personality of its own. I put myself into everyone of my artworks.

5 does teaching help to boost you creativity? Do you students wear you styles?

This is a great question. Teaching is inspiring. Being an art teacher and seeing the creativity helps me stay current and think creatively. At this time my students do not know about my shop because we just launched. However I always show them my artwork to inspire them, to show them the possibilities, and push them to the next level. Having taught fashion design, I think I have more of the expressive and eccentric students that have interesting and unique styles that definitely influence my views of fashion and what it can be.

6 It’s little something I ask everyone I take interviews of: people say that talented in art, fashion and/or design kids modify their toys and remaking the dolls costumes as their first experiments. My hairdresser for example made new stylish haircuts to all of her dolls in a hour time when she was five. Did you do something alike? and if you did, what was it?

I was always extremely artistic as a child. My dad felt that drawing was just as important as reading and writing and encouraged me in the arts. I was always painting and drawing, and I loved drawing people. I was never really that good skill wise as a child. I was not a prodigy artist. However, I had the motivation and drive to learn and hone my skills overtime. I then began digital photography when I was 10 with my first point and shoot camera. This developed my artistic eye for composition, color, values, etc.. I then used these skills to conquer other artistic mediums moving to drawing, then paint and eventually sculptures, through applying previous knowledge.

Happy Halloween

Don't you just loove  Halloween ?everybody does! This year we made it very special  decorating  everything, cutting a huge pumpkin and creating yammy  Halloween  food. We've celebrated this holiday at the exact date October 31st at home with friends. I chose the costume of intelligent witch (yeap, jedi costumes are not fair for Halloween) and finally worn my little black dress I wear so seldom. Max decided to come to usual role of ordinary Murre vampire. He's the best in this part.  Our little ghost this is my entery for IFB project #70 I was wearing: little black dress I own since I was 9 years old (I still more than fit in it) Topshop hat Jeffrey Campbell heels Chanel makeup   Have a nice day, Lyosha

What's in my bag?

I never did such post and really wanted to fill in the blanks here. Moreover I wanted to do it because I recently got two items which are hard to show in the outfit but are part of my daily life and style for sure. Plus it's it fun to have a closer look in my daily life? That's why I want to show you my bag contents. When I'm not wearing a backpack which usually means I have a sports uniform inside or planning or carry something more or less big or going for some travels (so I need my hands as free as possible) I tend to use smaller scale bags. The point is to have only minimum of necessary things with me and not to loose something important. This time I'm featuring my recently most loved bag by NewChic (you can shop it here ). Usually I have a wallet with me. When who doesn't? We still money to life, right? It is my very new and super comfy wallet which was provided by great company NewChic  I recently posted two posts with their awesome items here and h

Tanchoo the talk

You might have noticed I often wear accessory marked Tanchoo (my favourite rings I tend to wear with almost each outfit) or some Russian designer clothes I'm wearing. It's all from wonderful shop Tanchoo . I love this shop so much so when I thought about launching the post series about fashion in form of interview I never thought twice and contacted lovely shop owner Tatiana or simly Tanchoo to start it. This is Tanchoo herself modeling for her shop. this is me wearing some of Tanchoo accessories.and Dina Faradgeva top also from this shop And this is the interview: 1 Tanya the first question would be most ordinary but nevertheless interesting: why your shop and accessory line is called Tanchoo . What does it mean?   Tanchoo is my name is the sphere of design and for life. No my real name for sure is Tatiana but my friends call me that way - Tanchoo or Tanch)) That’s why then it came to choosing my brand name and afterwards the project Young Russian Design
