Interveiw with Knick Knack handmade accessories designer

ENG: I bet you all missed this posts! It's an interview! This time I want you to meet my friend and also a very creative and talented person Alexandra! She does beautiful accessories in various techniques, I am absolutely positive you will something of your liking among her creations. The easiest way to find her is her instagram

I. ENG: Sasha, I'm very happy to call you a friend of mine and proud to know such a creative person. I'm very excited you agreed on answering my questions. Thank you! My first question is probably the least interesting however it's a must I'd say. Why did you name your accessories knick knack?
ENG: My story of handmade started relatively long ago, around 11 years back or so. It was my first time to visit any handmade fair in Moscow which took place in some random dark basement)) It was the time when accessories, toys and other handmade goodies were rare here. I was so very much impressed with the masters and thought I want to do that as well. The name came by itself, it was based on translation between russian and english. Knick Knack - it sure does sound  funny,

II.

II. ENG: What was the first ever knick knack accessory like?
ENG: I started making friendship bracelets on special machine. Later on I started working with hand painted polymer clay. It was a new thing in handmade world back than, few people started doing it before me. Using that technique my first creation were earrings with old-school swallows.
III.
III. ENG: Currently you are not only making hand painted accessories but also use various techniques like bugle or felting. What sort of accessories do you like making the best? Did it change overtime?
ENG: I have always loved drawing. During my childhood years I graduated from art school. And I also used to wear millions of friendship bracelets made of beads. It was my passion. That is why now I work using various techniques combining painting, clay, beads and embroidery. It feels so cool to make my ideas come true in various ways. Sometimes my customers tell what kind of materials they want me to use. For example there is a trend for brooches lately that is why currently my work is mostly beads and sequins embroidery.
IV.
IV. ENG: I know you are not only making wonderful accessories but also have the so called day job. How hard it is to mix it? Share some secrets of you time management!
ENG: yes, my primary occupation is financial sphere. I work as financial director's assistant in on of the hotel next to International Scheremetevo Airport. I do my handmade during the evenings or weekends. Mixing it isn't easy but my love to handmade items means a lot! May be in future it will become my main source of income. Right now I call it a hobby helping me to develop my creative side and have some relief from hardworking weekdays.

V. ENG: I know you don't always work under your original ideas but also fulfill orders. Is it harder than make your own art under your own tempo? What is the hardest part in ordered job?
ENG: I can definitely say taking order is way more complicated. You have to meet all the client's expectations. Here you have everything: color scheme, sizing, techniques. But when you see the emotions of your clients seeing their new accessory made exactly as they wanted it to be overlaps everything! Working under your own sketches is way more interesting, here you have freedom of picking designs, colors and materials.
VI.
VI. ENG: Accessories are pretty and useful but haven't you thought of jewelry design? It feels like logical growth.
ENG: Yes I have considered that. May be I will enroll to jewelry courses in future. But currently I haven't fullfilled even a half of what I wanted to achieve following the techniques I use now.
VII.

VII. ENG: I always liked the way you dress. Do you often wear accessories you made yourself?
ENG: Definitely! I am a living advertisement of my own accessories. For example, if I go to the office wearing one of my brooches - I can be pretty sure the next day orders from colleges will follow. It's a great self advertisement.
VIII. RU: Фирменный вопрос от Inside and Outside.

VIII. ENG: Unique Inside and Outside question. Some say creative people augment they toys to suit their desires. Cut doll's hair and paint them blue, draw a tattoo for a pup, sew a new outfit out of mother's wedding dress are common examples. Do you have a story about little Sasha and her creative adventures?
ENG: I remeber clearly playing two games when I was little: paper dolls (it's when you have a paper doll and draw various outfits for the doll on paper and then cut it); the second one was making friendship bracelets for me and my friends as I mentioned before.

Have a nice day,
Lyosha

  26. I like how she came up with the name for the company - although in British English, when we say "Knick Knack" there are two meanings: it means a thing that is small and worthless, or it means a type of crisps, though that is spelt Nik Naks LOL x

Happy Halloween

Don't you just loove  Halloween ?everybody does! This year we made it very special  decorating  everything, cutting a huge pumpkin and creating yammy  Halloween  food. We've celebrated this holiday at the exact date October 31st at home with friends. I chose the costume of intelligent witch (yeap, jedi costumes are not fair for Halloween) and finally worn my little black dress I wear so seldom. Max decided to come to usual role of ordinary Murre vampire. He's the best in this part.  Our little ghost this is my entery for IFB project #70 I was wearing: little black dress I own since I was 9 years old (I still more than fit in it) Topshop hat Jeffrey Campbell heels Chanel makeup   Have a nice day, Lyosha

What's in my bag?

I never did such post and really wanted to fill in the blanks here. Moreover I wanted to do it because I recently got two items which are hard to show in the outfit but are part of my daily life and style for sure. Plus it's it fun to have a closer look in my daily life? That's why I want to show you my bag contents. When I'm not wearing a backpack which usually means I have a sports uniform inside or planning or carry something more or less big or going for some travels (so I need my hands as free as possible) I tend to use smaller scale bags. The point is to have only minimum of necessary things with me and not to loose something important. This time I'm featuring my recently most loved bag by NewChic (you can shop it here ). Usually I have a wallet with me. When who doesn't? We still money to life, right? It is my very new and super comfy wallet which was provided by great company NewChic  I recently posted two posts with their awesome items here and h

Tanchoo the talk

You might have noticed I often wear accessory marked Tanchoo (my favourite rings I tend to wear with almost each outfit) or some Russian designer clothes I'm wearing. It's all from wonderful shop Tanchoo . I love this shop so much so when I thought about launching the post series about fashion in form of interview I never thought twice and contacted lovely shop owner Tatiana or simly Tanchoo to start it. This is Tanchoo herself modeling for her shop. this is me wearing some of Tanchoo accessories.and Dina Faradgeva top also from this shop And this is the interview: 1 Tanya the first question would be most ordinary but nevertheless interesting: why your shop and accessory line is called Tanchoo . What does it mean?   Tanchoo is my name is the sphere of design and for life. No my real name for sure is Tatiana but my friends call me that way - Tanchoo or Tanch)) That’s why then it came to choosing my brand name and afterwards the project Young Russian Design
